Caramelised Onion

Kids Pantry Caramelised Onion Recipe


  • ½ onion, sliced into rings
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon of butter
  • Pinch salt & freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoon cold water



  1. Heat oil & butter in a saucepan over medium / low heat.
  2. Add onion.
  3. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden.
  4. And garlic, cook for 1 minute
  5. Add sugar. Cook, stirring, for 3 minutes.
  6. Add vinegar and 2 tablespoons of cold water.
  7. Bring to the boil. Reduce heat to low.
  8. Simmer, uncovered, for 5 minutes or until thick.
